Choosing between them is mostly one decision

Depth. Width is set by the shelf and you have no say in it, height is set by the shelf above, but depth is the number people get wrong, because a deep bin on a deep shelf turns into a place where things go to be forgotten. Two shallow bins front to back beat one deep one almost every time: you pull the front one out to reach the back one, and both stay visible.

The second decision is handles, and it only matters on a high shelf. A bin without a grip has to be pulled by its rim, which is fine at chest height and unpleasant above your head with something heavy in it.
