The things that hold other things up

Racks and holders are the part of a kitchen that fails quietly. A dish rack that does not drain leaves water under it; a turntable that binds gets used once and then pushed to the back; a paper towel holder without weight in the base comes off the counter with the towel.

What to check before buying any of them: where the water goes, whether the base is heavier than what stands on it, and whether the thing can be reached one-handed. The last one sounds trivial until you are holding a wet pan.
